Nano Banana is free only on Google's own platforms: the Gemini app and Google AI Studio, with limits and without full Pro access. Neither service supports Russia. So a search for free Nano Banana usually ends on a middleman site whose terms nobody has checked. This article covers three things: what is free and what is paid, Google's image prices, and a cheap route through an API.
What is free in Nano Banana, as of October 29, 2026
The official picture comes from three places. The data is taken from the Gemini API pricing page, the Gemini Apps usage limits help page and Gemini's image generation page.
| Where | What is free | What is paid or limited |
|---|---|---|
| Gemini app | Nano Banana 2 at no charge; the daily image count is not published | Nano Banana 2.1 comes with a Google AI plan; the redo-with-Pro option is available on Google AI Pro, Plus and Ultra |
| Google AI Studio | Free to use in every supported region | An API key for programmatic use is paid |
| Gemini API | Nothing: the free tier for image models is listed as "Not available" | Pay per image at Google's price list |
Google does not give an exact number of images per day. The Gemini Apps usage limits help page states limits as multipliers: standard limits apply without a plan, Plus doubles them, Pro quadruples them, and Ultra is 5 or 20 times the Pro limits. You can see what you have left inside the app: Settings, then Usage Limits. Google adds right away that limits can change without notice.
A separate word on Pro, because older guides describe a setup that no longer exists. In its post of December 23, 2025, Google said free users get Pro with a cap, after which the app switches them to the original model. Since February 26, 2026 the app's main model is Nano Banana 2, and Pro is a redo option for paid plans. A guide promising "free Pro with no limits" is wrong today.
Does the free access work from Russia
No. Russia is not on the Gemini Apps country list, and the list of regions for the Gemini API and AI Studio does not include it either (checked October 29, 2026). Gemini understands Russian, but language support and country support are separate things.
We advise against spoofing your country or borrowing someone else's account: the account can be flagged for review, and access will vanish at the worst moment. The conclusion is simple. The vendor does not support the country, and the legal route to the same models runs through a gateway that pays for the calls itself. More on that below.
'Nano Banana with no sign-up' and middleman sites
A search for "Nano Banana with no sign-up" returns sites and apps with nanobanana in the name. They have nothing to do with Google's services: the Nano Banana family has no website of its own, and the name belongs to models inside Gemini. Which model actually answers behind such a page, and what happens to your prompts and uploaded photos, cannot be checked.
We would stick to three rules:
- Do not enter your Google password, API keys or payment details on third-party pages.
- Stay away from "Nano Banana apk" files and mods: Nano Banana is a model, not an app, and it has no standalone client.
- Do not upload photos of people or documents you would not want to see in someone else's storage.
Now watermarks. According to the Pro announcement of November 20, 2025, every Google image carries an invisible SynthID mark, while the visible Gemini mark stays on images from free users and AI Pro subscribers. Ultra subscribers and AI Studio do not get it. For work material, check how the mark looks on your plan before you publish.
Nano Banana prices in the Gemini API
The image models have no free tier, and you pay per image. Google's price list as of October 29, 2026, dollars per image:
| Model | 1K | 2K | 4K |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nano Banana Pro | $0.134 | $0.134 | $0.24 |
| Nano Banana 2 | $0.067 | $0.101 | $0.151 |
| Nano Banana 2.1 | $0.0336 | $0.0504 | $0.113 |
| Nano Banana 2 Lite | $0.0336 | not listed | not listed |
| Nano Banana (original) | $0.039 | not listed | not listed |
For the original model Google quotes a price for images up to 1024x1024 and says it will shut the model down on March 15, 2027. This is Google's own price list, not codexkey's. For a comparison of the versions by capability, see Nano Banana Pro: review and differences from version 2.
Free alternatives: open models
If you want generation with no payment and no Google, open weights remain. The newest notable one is Qwen-Image-2.1 from Alibaba: 7 billion parameters, up to 10 references and 2048x2048 output, according to its Hugging Face card. The catch is the license. The Qwen Research License allows the weights to be used for non-commercial purposes only, meaning research and evaluation. Advertising or a product needs a separate commercial license.
Running it comes down to a GPU. Unsloth estimates about 11 GB of video memory with quantized GGUF weights and 24 GB with INT8 or FP8, but the authors themselves call the figures estimates, not verified minimums. How to run it and how the model looks on quality is covered in Qwen Image 2.1: review.
A cheap route: Cheap and lite in codexkey
codexkey does not give images away for free, but the catalog has nano-banana, nano-banana-2 and nano-banana-pro, and two mechanisms bring the price down. The public price list has no image prices; you find them on each model's page in the catalog.
- Cheap channel.
nano-banana-prois sold in it too: noticeably cheaper, but generation fails more often. If the key is in cheap mode and the attempt fails, you get a 503model_unavailableerror and nothing is charged. Theauto_cheapmode sends a failed request to Premium at the Premium price.nano-banana-2has no Cheap channel. How the channels work is described in the Premium and Cheap guide. - Lite mode.
nano-banana-2has a lightweight mode, andresolutionis not needed for it:
curl https://api.codexkey.online/v1/images/generations \
-H "Authorization: Bearer sk_cdx_YOUR_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"model": "nano-banana-2", "prompt": "a red apple on a white table", "tier": "lite"}'
You are charged only for a successful result. You can top up with a Russian bank card, through SBP (the Russian Faster Payments System) or with crypto; no Google account is needed. Request parameters are collected in the images and video reference.
How to spend less, in practice. Settle the composition in lite or at 1K, do not order 4K until the frame is approved, and budget for one retry on error. If you are comparing with an OpenAI model, see GPT Image 2 and 2.5: review and the general choice of image API. If what you need is a Google key for the Gemini text models, the article Gemini API: key and access from Russia will help.
What to pick for your task
Free and paid options solve different problems. We sorted the typical cases like this:
| Task | What fits | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A couple of images for yourself, nothing published | The Gemini app, if you are in a supported country; otherwise nano-banana-2 in lite mode through codexkey | A small top-up is enough to test an idea |
| Experiments and learning without spending money | Qwen-Image-2.1 on your own GPU | The weights are open, but for non-commercial use only |
| Banners and product cards at volume | nano-banana-2 in lite mode or nano-banana-pro in Cheap | Cheaper, and a retry on error is built into the process |
| A poster with dense text, 2K or 4K | nano-banana-pro in Premium | You need the result on the first try, and saving on failures is not worth it |
If the result does not meet your criteria, do not pay extra for resolution: more pixels will not add the details that are missing. Change the model or simplify the prompt.
FAQ
Is Nano Banana really free?
In the Gemini app, version 2 is available at no charge, with limits Google does not state as a number. In Google AI Studio, use is free in supported regions. The image models in the Gemini API have no free tier. Russia is not on the country lists of these services.
How do I get Nano Banana Pro for free?
Officially, you cannot. In December 2025 free users got Pro with a cap, but since February 26, 2026 the app defaults to version 2, and the redo with Pro is open to Google AI Pro, Plus and Ultra subscribers. In the API, Pro is paid: $0.134 per image at 1K and 2K on Google's price list.
How many free images a day does Gemini allow?
Google does not publish an exact number. The remaining allowance is shown under Settings, then Usage Limits at gemini.google.com. Limits depend on the plan and change without notice.
What is behind "Nano Banana with no sign-up"?
Usually a third-party wrapper site, not a Google service. We cannot check which model really answers or how your prompts and photos are stored. Google's official platforms work only in the countries listed.
Does Nano Banana have a free API?
No. On Google's October 29, 2026 price list, the free tier for image models is shown as unavailable. AI Studio is free to use, but a key for code is paid, and Russia is not supported by these services.
What can replace Nano Banana if I need a free option?
For non-commercial and research work, the open Qwen-Image-2.1 weights fit if you have a GPU with roughly 11 GB or more (Unsloth's estimate). For production work, the cheapest start is lite mode on nano-banana-2 or the Cheap channel on nano-banana-pro in codexkey, checking the result against your own prompts.
