There is no reliable way to open ChatGPT 6 from Russia. The country is missing from the list where OpenAI supports its API, and we neither test nor promise a ChatGPT subscription paid with a Russian card. For developers, and anyone who needs the GPT-6 models themselves, what remains is an OpenAI-compatible API through a gateway: pay with a Russian card, SBP (the Russian Faster Payments System) or crypto, no VPN. It will not replace the ChatGPT interface with its voice mode and file uploads.
Which GPT-6 models had shipped by October 29, 2026
"The new GPT-6" is not one model but a family, and OpenAI released it in pieces.
| Date | What shipped | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| September 3, 2026 | GPT-6 Astra | flagship for the hardest work |
| September 22, 2026 | GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna | Sol for complex code, Luna for high-volume tasks |
| September 29, 2026 | GPT-6.1 Sol | close to Astra level at a lower price |
| October 26, 2026 | GPT-6.1 Terra | fast model for text, images and computer use |
The dates come from TechCrunch on Astra, Sol and Luna, TechCrunch on GPT-6.1 Sol and BleepingComputer on Terra. More on the top model of the line is in What is GPT-6 Astra.
Does ChatGPT with GPT-6 work in Russia
One thing is certain: Russia is not on OpenAI's page listing the countries where its API is supported. We checked on October 29, 2026. The same page warns that using the services from a country outside the list may end in a blocked or suspended account. ChatGPT has its own, separate list in the OpenAI help center. It changes, so check it yourself before paying.
What we do not know is how registration and payment with Russian cards actually go today. We found no official OpenAI statement on it, and retellings of other people's experience do not count as fact. So we would not build a team workflow on a ChatGPT subscription.
A VPN is no way out here. It does not solve payment, and switching your location can lead to that same account block. We do not give instructions for bypassing restrictions. Codex is tied to the same question, and it has its own article: Codex in Russia in 2026.
GPT-6 Plus, Pro and Free: what each plan includes
Searches for "gpt 6 plus" and "gpt 6 pro" boil down to one question: what does each plan give you. The data comes from the Codex pricing page as of October 29, 2026:
| Plan | Price per month | GPT-6 |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | GPT-6 Luna in the desktop app |
| Go | $8 | GPT-6 Luna in the desktop app |
| Plus | $20 | GPT-6.1 Sol, Luna, Terra and Astra in ChatGPT Work and Codex |
| Pro | from $100 (tiers $100, $200, $500) | everything in Plus, the five-hour limit does not apply |
| Business | $20 per user billed yearly, $25 monthly | same models as Plus |
Astra is capped on Plus: an estimated 5-45 local messages per five hours. GPT-6.1 Sol gets 15-160 and Luna 350-3000. Separately, the OpenAI help center describes a GPT-6 Pro mode in chat, built on Astra. According to the help center it is available in Pro, Business and Enterprise, and a Pro subscription does not make it unlimited. Terms get updated, so check the help center.
GPT-6 download and the official site
You cannot download the model: it runs on OpenAI's servers. You can use GPT-6 in the web version at chatgpt.com and in the ChatGPT app for macOS, Windows and Linux, which OpenAI offers for download at chatgpt.com/download. Codex is built into the ChatGPT app, while the CLI and the VS Code extension are installed separately. The install steps and official links are collected in Download Codex: desktop app, CLI, VS Code.
Stick to official addresses. Ads on "download" searches can be dangerous: in August 2026 PhishFort researchers described a campaign where an ad led to a shared chat on the real chatgpt.com domain with a malicious terminal command. That case is broken down in GPT-6 Astra: free or paid. Do not run any instruction that asks you to paste an unfamiliar command into a terminal.
What to do from Russia: an API instead of an account
If you need the GPT-6 models and not a chat interface, the path is short. codexkey is a gateway to model APIs: one sk_cdx_... key, payment by Russian card, SBP or crypto, no OpenAI account and no VPN. We do not sell ChatGPT subscriptions and we do not provide access to the web chat, only the API.
The catalog as of October 29, 2026 has four GPT-6 models:
| ID | Input per 1M tokens | Output per 1M tokens | Context |
|---|---|---|---|
gpt-6-astra | $0.68 | $3.3 | 1000K |
gpt-6.1-sol | $0.28 | $1.42 | 1000K |
gpt-6-sol | $0.14 | $0.68 | 1000K |
gpt-6-luna | $0.04 | $0.22 | 1000K |
This is the codexkey price list as of October 29, 2026; current prices are on the models page. GPT-6.1 Terra is not in the catalog yet.
Connect in five minutes
- Sign up, top up your balance and create a key under "API keys".
- Set the address
https://api.codexkey.online/v1in any OpenAI-compatible client. - Enter a model ID from the table.
import os
from openai import OpenAI
client = OpenAI(
base_url="https://api.codexkey.online/v1",
api_key=os.environ["CODEXKEY_API_KEY"],
)
reply = client.chat.completions.create(
model="gpt-6.1-sol",
messages=[{"role": "user", "content": "Draft a migration plan from REST to gRPC"}],
)
print(reply.choices[0].message.content)
Before the first payment, check that your client sees the key and the catalog:
curl https://api.codexkey.online/v1/models -H "Authorization: Bearer $CODEXKEY_API_KEY"
The response should include the IDs gpt-6-astra, gpt-6.1-sol, gpt-6-sol and gpt-6-luna. If the client complains about an unknown model, the cause is almost always a typo in the ID or an address missing /v1.
You can get a chat on top of the API inside an editor: Cursor, Zed and VS Code extensions can connect an OpenAI-compatible address. The settings are described in the guides for Cursor and Zed. The Codex coding agent connects through config.toml, as in the Codex guide.
What to choose: a subscription or the API
| What you need | What fits |
|---|---|
| Voice, file uploads, a ready chat on every device | a ChatGPT subscription, if you have a working way to pay for it |
| A coding agent in the terminal or editor | an API key and Codex, you pay for tokens |
| Your own bot or service on GPT-6 | an OpenAI-compatible API |
| Bulk text processing | the API and gpt-6-luna |
| Codex cloud features: PR review in GitHub, Slack integration | a ChatGPT subscription, they are unavailable when signed in with an API key |
Now the limits. The API does not come with a ready mobile app, a voice mode or ChatGPT "memory". If that is the set you need, there is no workaround through a gateway. For code and applications, though, a key gives you more: you choose the model for each task yourself and pay for actual usage, without the five-hour windows of a subscription.
How not to overpay when picking a model
Do not take Astra by default. For daily work it is wiser to start with gpt-6.1-sol or gpt-6-sol and bring in Astra for heavy sessions. For tagging and summaries, gpt-6-luna is enough. Check the choice on ten of your own tasks: the same prompt, different models, the price of a solved task. The whole line is compared in GPT-6 and GPT-5.6 for the API.
FAQ
How do I open ChatGPT 6 in Russia?
Officially it is not guaranteed: Russia is not on the list of countries where OpenAI supports its API, and ChatGPT has a separate list of its own. For developers, an OpenAI-compatible API through the codexkey gateway works, paid with a Russian card, SBP or crypto. The gateway does not replace the ChatGPT chat interface.
Where is the official ChatGPT 6 site and what should I download?
The web version of ChatGPT lives at chatgpt.com, and the app for macOS, Windows and Linux downloads from chatgpt.com/download, a link given in the OpenAI documentation. There is no separate "GPT-6" program: these are models inside ChatGPT and Codex. Do not download installers from ads or from third-party chats.
How does GPT-6 Plus differ from GPT-6 Pro?
Plus costs $20 a month and opens Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol, Terra and Luna in ChatGPT Work and Codex with caps on a five-hour window. Pro starts at $100, and the five-hour limit in Codex does not apply to it. The GPT-6 Pro mode in chat belongs to the higher plans.
Can I use GPT-6 for free?
Yes, but only the smallest model. On Free and Go, GPT-6 Luna is available in Codex. Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol come with paid plans. The OpenAI pricing page lists no free API tier for the GPT-6 models.
Do I need a VPN for GPT-6?
Not for codexkey: the gateway works like an ordinary API, and registration is not tied to an OpenAI account. With direct access to OpenAI, a VPN does not fix payment, and working from outside the supported list can end in a blocked account. We do not give instructions for bypassing restrictions.
Which GPT-6 is newest: Astra, Sol or GPT-6.1?
The timeline: Astra on September 3, Sol and Luna on September 22, GPT-6.1 Sol on September 29, GPT-6.1 Terra on October 26, 2026. Newer does not mean stronger: Astra stays the top model of the line, and OpenAI positions GPT-6.1 Sol as close to its level at a fifth of the price.
