Paying for the Claude API with crypto, SBP (the Russian Faster Payments System) or a Russian card. Full walkthrough: How to pay for the Claude API with crypto, a card or SBP.
People pay for API access in crypto for practical reasons: it is sometimes faster and cheaper. Here is when it makes sense and when a card is the better call.
When crypto wins
The card is declined. This is the most common case. Payments from Russian cards to foreign services are cut at the processor level, and arguing with the processor gets you nowhere.
The amount is large. The network fee is flat rather than a percentage, so the bigger the top-up, the smaller its share.
You want speed without a bank. A transfer confirms in minutes, and banking hours do not apply.
When a card or SBP is better
Small amounts. On a small top-up the network fee can take a noticeable bite.
You have never used crypto. The first transfer almost always goes wrong somewhere, and in crypto a mistake cannot be undone.
Why the network matters
The same USDT moves over several networks, and fees differ by multiples. Send on a network the recipient does not support and the funds are gone for good.
The rule is short: use the network the recipient named, not the one you are used to.
Three mistakes that cost money
- Wrong network. The funds leave and do not come back. Check twice.
- Withdrawing from an exchange without counting its fee. Less arrives than you sent, and the invoice stays open.
- Reusing an old address. Addresses rotate, so copy the current one from the payment screen, not from an earlier transfer.
How long crediting takes
Usually minutes. A payment counts once it has enough network confirmations, so under heavy load the wait is longer.
If nothing has arrived after an hour, find the transaction hash. With it, support tracks the payment down fast; without it, the conversation is guesswork.
How it works at codexkey
We accept USDT, BTC and ETH. Payment goes through payment providers, and the address and network appear on the top-up screen.
Besides crypto you can pay with SBP, Russian bank cards, MTS (a Russian mobile operator), YooKassa and Platega. The minimum top-up is one dollar, and the balance never expires.
In short
Crypto works for larger amounts and where cards fail. Pick the right network and keep the transaction hash.
