In short. A Russian card will not pay for Claude directly: not Claude Code, not Pro or Max, not the API. Russia is not on the list of countries where Anthropic offers its products (supported regions policy). For code and tools there is another route: top up your codexkey balance in rubles through SBP or a Russian card and pay for tokens with an API key. We sell API access. We do not sell Claude Pro or Max subscriptions.
Below: what gets declined, what goes through, and what it costs.
What exactly are you trying to pay for
"Pay for Claude", "pay for Claude Code" and "pay for Claude Pro or Max" sound alike, but each has its own answer.
| What to pay for | Directly from Russia | Through codexkey |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | No | Yes: a ruble balance and an API key |
| Claude API | No | Yes: pay per token |
| Claude Pro | No | We do not sell the subscription |
| Claude Max | No | We do not sell the subscription |
| claude.ai chat | No | No, API access only |
Payment methods: what actually goes through
| Method | Works in 2026 | Time | Fee | Block risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Russian card directly | No | n/a | n/a | 100% |
| MTS/Ozon virtual card | No | n/a | n/a | 100% |
| Foreign card (KZ/AM/AE) | Conditionally | ~1 week to issue | 0% | Depends on where you are physically |
| Telegram reseller | Conditionally | minutes | 50-100% markup | High (shared account) |
| Claude API through codexkey | Yes | after the payment is confirmed | depends on the method | None (your own key) |
What does not work (checked in 2026)
Start with Anthropic's own rules. Its billing FAQ says website subscriptions are paid only by credit or debit card. The page on declined cards adds that PayPal and Venmo are not accepted and that the billing address and the card's country must be allowed. SBP and crypto are not on that list, and Russia is not on the list of supported countries. Hence the results below.
Paying directly with a Russian card. Visa, Mastercard and Mir (the Russian national card system) from Russian banks are declined at 3D-Secure or right after it. Anthropic takes payments through Stripe, and Stripe does not process cards issued in Russia.
MTS, Ozon and Tinkoff virtual cards. In 2024-2025 they went through now and then. In 2026 it is almost always a refusal: to Stripe, a virtual card from a Russian bank is still a Russian card.
Virtual cards from foreign issuers via Russian services (PayDay, Pyypl and the like). The payment sometimes succeeds, but an Anthropic account used from Russia still risks a ban. More in the article on Claude account bans.
PayPal with a Russian account. PayPal has not worked in Russia since spring 2022.
Apple Pay and Google Pay with a Russian card. Same checks, same result.
What works directly, with caveats
A foreign bank card with a real foreign address. The payment can go through, but getting such a card from Russia is not easy: you need a trip abroad, a residence permit, or an account opened with passport verification. There is a second limit too. Anthropic's policy looks at where a person physically is, not at the card's country, so for someone living in Russia a foreign card does not solve the problem. More in the section on the regions policy.
Resellers. Telegram channels sell Claude Pro at $35-50 a month and Claude Max at $250-350 a month, with a markup for payment. The accounts are often shared (a data leak risk) or live 2-4 weeks before they are blocked.
What works through codexkey
codexkey is an API gateway to the Claude models. You top up a ruble balance any way you like and get your own API key, no Anthropic account needed. The upshot for the search "anthropic claude payment russia": the bank will not pass a payment to Anthropic directly, but it goes through a gateway that takes rubles.
SBP (the Faster Payments System)
The fastest method. You scan a QR code in the dashboard, confirm the transfer in your banking app, and the balance is credited once the payment is confirmed. Transfer limits are set by your bank.
Russian card (Visa, Mastercard, Mir)
Payment goes through YooKassa (a Russian payment service) and Platega and accepts cards from any Russian bank, Sber, Tinkoff, Alfa and VTB included. 3D-Secure is the usual one, and the balance is credited once the payment is confirmed.
MTS Bank card
An MTS Bank card pays through YooKassa like any Russian card. Details in the article How to pay for Claude with MTS.
Crypto (USDT, BTC, ETH)
Through CryptoCloud and CryptoBot, on TRC-20, ERC-20 and BEP-20. The balance is topped up after 1-3 network confirmations: usually 1-5 minutes for TRC-20 and 10-15 minutes for ETH.
Virtual card
If you already have a Pyypl, PayDay or Wise card, it works directly through Platega. There is little point, though: SBP is simpler.
How to buy Claude Code and pay for Claude Pro from Russia
"Buy Claude Code" and "pay for Claude Pro from Russia" come down to one question in practice: how do you get working access when the bank blocks the payment? Claude Code itself is a free CLI tool, but it needs either subscription access (Pro, Max, Team) or an API key that charges for tokens.
Paying for Claude Pro from Russia
It cannot be done directly, for the same reason as everything above: a Russian card does not pass Anthropic's billing. With codexkey you do not buy a Pro subscription. You get an API key and pay for the tokens you actually use, which is usually cheaper than a subscription if your load is irregular. A comparison of subscription and API in numbers is in the article Claude subscription or Claude API: which is cheaper in Russia.
How to pay for Claude Code from Russia
There is no separate payment. You only set Claude Code up to run on a codexkey API key instead of an Anthropic account:
export ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL=https://api.codexkey.online
export ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN=sk_cdx_your_key
export ANTHROPIC_DEFAULT_OPUS_MODEL="claude-opus-5-5[1m]"
export ANTHROPIC_DEFAULT_SONNET_MODEL="claude-sonnet-5[1m]"
export ANTHROPIC_DEFAULT_HAIKU_MODEL="claude-sonnet-5"
The ANTHROPIC_DEFAULT_* lines are needed: without them Claude Code asks for its own default models and answers "There's an issue with the selected model". After that, claude in the terminal works as usual, and tokens are charged to the balance you topped up by any method from the table above. Installation and the first run are covered in Download Claude Code and Claude Code in Russia, and the environment variable reference is in the codexkey docs.
What it costs compared with paying Anthropic directly
The calculation at an exchange rate of $1 ≈ 95 rubles (April 2026):
- Claude Pro: Anthropic charges $20, about 1900 rubles. With codexkey the fixed fee is $0, only the API balance. An active chat user spends 300-700 rubles a month (roughly $3-7).
- Claude Max: Anthropic charges $200, about 19000 rubles (the 20x plan). Again, no fixed fee. An active developer in Claude Code spends 4000-5000 rubles a month (roughly $40-50).
- A team of 5 on Max: Anthropic charges $1000 a month, about 95000 rubles. Through the codexkey API it is around 23000 rubles a month (roughly $250).
The saving holds even if you could pay Anthropic directly: pay-per-use is cheaper than a fixed subscription for everyone except the heaviest users.
Security: where your money and data go
Turn on TOTP 2FA for signing in and create named API keys for integrations. A codexkey key supports Premium or Cheap, a Premium fallback for Cheap, an expiry date and usage statistics. The key API does not offer IP filters, model restrictions or daily budgets.
FAQ
How do I pay for Claude in Russia?
A Russian bank card does not pay Anthropic directly. What works is topping up your codexkey balance in rubles through SBP, a Russian card or crypto and paying for tokens with an API key. We do not sell Claude Pro or Max subscriptions, only API access.
How do I pay for Claude Code from Russia?
Claude Code is free to install, and what you pay for is access to the models. Top up your codexkey balance, create a key and enter it in the Claude Code settings as described in the Claude Code guide. Money is charged to the balance per token, and there is no fixed subscription.
How do I pay for Claude Pro from Russia?
We do not set up Pro subscriptions and cannot help pay for one with a Russian card. If you need model access for code and tools, an API key with pay-per-token billing will do. That access does not include the claude.ai chat.
How do I pay for Claude Max from Russia?
We do not sell the Max subscription either. For heavy work in Claude Code an API key is usually enough: you pay for the tokens actually used, not for a plan. The price calculation is above.
How do I buy Claude in Russia?
Sign up at codexkey, top up your balance in rubles and create an API key sk_cdx_.... Plug it into Claude Code, Cursor or your own code in place of an Anthropic account.
How do I pay for Claude from Russia without a foreign card?
With SBP or a card from a Russian bank, no foreign card needed. Top-ups go through YooKassa or Platega, and crypto is accepted by CryptoCloud, CryptoBot and 2328.
Can I pay with Tinkoff, Sber or Alfa?
Yes, any Russian card goes through YooKassa and Platega. 3D-Secure is the usual one.
What are the SBP limits?
The standard bank limits for SBP: 100 000 rubles a day free, and above that the bank charges a fee. Business accounts have higher limits.
Can I get a receipt for accounting?
The payment service sends a payment confirmation, and the full top-up history is kept in your account. Invoices and closing documents for legal entities are not available yet.
Can I get a payment refunded?
Yes, the API balance is returned to the original payment method within 7 days on request to support. If part of the balance is already spent, the refund is proportional.
What is the minimum top-up?
One dollar, about 100 rubles at the current rate. That is enough to try the API on a few requests.
What happens if Anthropic blocks codexkey?
No service can give guarantees about the future. A codexkey key is not tied to an Anthropic account, so blocks on other people's Anthropic accounts do not affect it.
How do I buy Claude in Russia without a foreign card?
Through codexkey: register with an email, top up in rubles by any method from the table above, create an API key sk_cdx_... and connect it in place of an Anthropic account in Claude Code, Cursor or your own code. You pay per token, with no subscription.
